Mathematics

Led by a team of highly-qualified specialist mathematicians with many years of teaching experience, the department aims to bring our subject to pupils of all abilities: to inspire and challenge them to succeed at the highest level, whilst creating a secure environment where opinions and ideas are valued and respected.

Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand the world about them. This includes problem-solving, number skills, abstract thinking and logic to name but a few.

Mathematics is all around us, in all we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and modern), art, medicine, finance, engineering, and even sports. We aim to develop confident mathematicians who are able to engage with the real world.

Mathematics continues to be one of the most popular subjects in the school for A-Level. The enthusiasm for this subject is reflected in our excellent examination results. Many pupils go on to use mathematics at degree level, studying engineering, architecture, physics, finance and economics, mathematics and natural sciences at Cambridge University.
