Art, Design and Photography

Art at Colston’s is an experience which enhances and encourages our pupils’ own creative responses and experiences. We develop our pupils’ artistic skills in an expressive and intuitive way. All work produced is a personal response to a theme and is chosen to develop pupils as creative, free-thinking individuals.

Pupils have the opportunity to study in large, spacious purpose-built art studios, with the added benefit of an IT suite running industry standard software (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.) and a darkroom facility.

Pupils have excellent resources at their disposal with printmaking, photography and sculpture on offer.

Combining these diverse creative skills promotes the correlation between art, design processes and their varied contexts.

We organise trips with diverse artistic influences. In the Sixth Form, A-Level Art and Photography pupils visit Paris and the influential galleries of this stimulating city. We also visit Monet’s Garden at Giverny to give an insight into how an artist lived and worked. Trips are also arranged to all the major London galleries.

We run an eclectic series of workshops, ranging from animation to experimental printmaking and darkroom skills. Pupils of all ages were encouraged to attend the Aardman Stop Motion workshop and visiting artists and designers are invited into school to give lectures to A-Level pupils.
