2016 Prizegiving Ceremony
It was great to see so many parents and family members in school for our annual Prizegiving ceremony and we were delighted that Rick Haythornthwaite, OC, was able to attend.
His message “It’s never too late to be the person you want to be” was both expertly delivered and incredibly relevant for our audience members.
We want our students to take advantage of the very many excellent opportunities that they have at Colston’s and to make the most of themselves in all arenas. Of course some who have been busy doing that were rewarded with prizes but we hope that all those who contribute in so many different ways to the life of the school will know how much we value them whether they received an award or not.

A new Head of Lower School for Colston’s
The Chair of Governors and the Headmaster are delighted to announce that Mr David Edwards has been appointed to succeed Stuart Smart as the new Head of Colston’s Lower School.
Mr Edwards will join Colston’s in September after 8 very successful years as Head of Warminster Prep School in Wiltshire. He most recently led the school to an ISI report that rated the school as Excellent in all 9 areas. His extensive background in Independent Education has seen him work at Dauntsey’s and Wycliffe College Prep Schools, as well as time overseas. David holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Management and is also a School Team Inspector for ISI.
Mr Edwards coaches rugby, hockey and cricket as well as being a former Head of Geography, PE and Art. He is committed to outdoor pursuits and is a talented sportsman, notably excelling in rugby, where he enjoyed playing in the Dubai Sevens for three years.
His holistic educational philosophy matches very well with the Colston’s ethos and we are delighted to have secured such an exceptional leader to replace Stuart Smart.
David and his wife, Dominique, have two children and the family are looking forward to their move to Bristol.
Mr Edwards said:
“My family and I are truly thrilled to be joining such a prestigious school with a wonderful history of supporting and educating children. During the interview process we were drawn by the warmth of our welcome, the politeness of the pupils and the energy of the school.
We are delighted that our children (Saskia currently Year 6 and Bobby Year 2) will now join this successful and happy pupil body and look forward to bringing our experience andexpertise to the Lower School from September."
We will be making arrangements for current parents to have the chance to meet Mr & Mrs Edwards over the coming months and David will be visiting the school regularly between now and September in order to receive a full and complete handover from Mr Smart.
We look forward very much to them joining the Colston's Family.
