Colston’s is proud of its commitment to inspiring scientists of the future through a variety of forward-thinking initiatives, including the celebrated Nano X Project run in conjunction with the University of Bristol. A commitment to excellence in the STEM area was evident in the 2018 triple science GCSE results, where 47% of students obtained the top 9 grade in biology, chemistry and physics. An impressive 90% of triple science candidates obtained grades 9 to 7 (equivalent to A** to A) across all three subjects.
We have recently been left a gift from one of our Old Colstonians who has requested that we offer STEM scholarships to girls from Bristol and beyond to enable them to develop their passion and commitment to the sciences.
STEM Scholars will join a thriving Faculty of Science where experiential learning is at the centre of all of our teaching and opportunities to work with outside partners, such as the University of Bristol, are an everyday occurrence.
To be successful in their application candidates must:
- Perform well on our written entrance assessments.
- Have an interview with the Headmaster and or the Director of Faculty for Science.
- Have an interest or aptitude for STEM subjects.
- Attend a STEM assessment day where girls will take part in a variety of practical experiments and activities.
Substantial awards may be available for eligible candidates entering Year 7, 9 and Sixth Form in September 2019.
